Lighting up Plymouth’s Smeaton’s Tower

Hyde Park Electrical is proud to be supporting LITE Ltd with the recent lighting trials taking part across Plymouth. Smeaton’s Tower Plymouth is a well known and much loved landmark and many see it as a symbolic representation of Plymouth. Smeaton’s Tower will light up The Hoe if plans for permanent LED lighting to be installed are given the go ahead by planning chiefs. Incandescent lamps are already fitted around the base of the tower but it’s hoped additional LED lighting in three other locations will be allowed. Permission has been asked for the installation of lights within the external paving, linear lighting on the balcony and linear lighting on the inside of the dome above the glazed lantern. The initial illumination will be a cool white, but with the possibility to change the colour to co inside with any special occasions or events.

Hyde Park Electrical are assisting with the considerations that have to be being given to the exact placement of the lamps, how they will be fixed in place and where cables will be taken to supply the lamps in order to protect this Grade I listed building. A number of technical trials have been carried out to check the effect of the lamps as well as the intensity and colour range of the lights. The results we think are quite stunning!
